/GREAT BOOKS/ Thread

Look at this photo. This is a photo of the curriculum for an elite American univeristy in the 1930. That's right - it's a bunch of books. Not just any books, but the Great Books, which contain the Great Ideas. These books chart the foundation of high civilization and are filled with enduring wisdom and knowledge which will make you a complete human being, prepared to restore the West to its glorious past.

Our nation - nay, the Western World - has been subject to a cultural decline advanced through the hijacking of intent among our universities, and the worst cultural influences of the market economy. Culture is like a game of telephone - obscure the signal, and the whole thing falls apart. In order to restore our world, you must see it through the eyes of the great people who built it. You can have this, if you have the will, but it takes reading The Great Books. So, save the photo, or check out the Hutchins collection here:

*1930s

For whatever reason, I tend to start these threads with a typo in the initial post.

The final redpill is that you don't really need books if you have someone guiding you through the spiritual path meant for you. Find a mentor. Follow his advice like it's the word of God.

My name is Anonymous, and I approve this post.

Its Titivillus.

There is no reason for our world to not be as it was in saner times. People are still people. All that has changed are the ideas we expose ourselves to, and the cultural artifacts which inhabit our world. Feed society the right ideas, and it becomes better. How would the men of the past regard our technology, and how would they use it as opposed to how we use it today? What would they approve of, and what would they disapprove of? You cannot know unless you learn what they knew, that is, the lgeacy of Western Civilization and its proud role in this world.

It very well could be!

The original Luddites didn't break all the frames: they deliberately left unharmed the few machines that produced quality products.

Some major changes from this world (I implore everyone to stare at the photo and imagine living in it) to our own.

- Computational processing supplanting human thought, or a reliance on personal, digital computer devices in order to think and understand the world.
- The establishment of a global telecommunications apparatus which has filled the air waves with all sorts of ideas, and has disturbed societal coherence and harmony.
- A noteworthy hostility towards civilization practised bymany of the colored people's of world
- The reduction of attention spans through an overwhelming and immoral entertainment apparatus.
- Widespread dishonor among men and women, who have been lulled by the lure of material, wealth, and pleasure, as fulfilled by mechanized abundance, that is, great efficiency in mechanical industry.
- Lust for industry and obsession with utility rendering cities quite disharmonious and somewhat unlivable.
- Shallow, vain people obsessed with their own bodies and being.

I saw your thread last night and went to price check some of the selection but having trouble finding them. I don't like ebooks. Any suggestions?

Visit antiquarian book stores or the "nostalgia" section of Half-Price Books. The Great Books of the western world series, or slections from it, are commonly available on eBay. There is a 1957 version, and a version publish in the 90s with a few additions, but both are good.

Education is a business
Those books are of no interest to women.
Natually, they have to go.

One must look no further than the present incarnation of Emily Post's etiquette to comprehend everything which has gone wrong with women.

It must be pointed out that the crux of power in this world rests in the hand of technologist and the powerful implementation of computers for various ends in our nation. The honing of this power requires a particular education which is counterintuitive to some, and may be quite difficult and demanding in profit-driven commercial settings, wherein greater attention is not paid towards the socially devastating employment of computers, websites, and software in the Western World. The interconnectivity enabled by the internet has destroyed cultural uniqueness, and tossed the world asunder, into a harrowing pit of relativism, paranoia, and general uncertainty. I often consider that one must know of technology in order to save this world, but it is a complex field.

But Any Forums told me that humanities are a waste of time

would it be cheaper to get the set or buy individual works, you reckon?

Bump from last night. Have some good book recommendations that fall outside of those list:
>March of the Titans (Arthur Kemp)
>A History of Central Banking (S. M. Goodson)
>Decline of the West [vol 1 and vol 2] (Oswald Spengler)
>Imperium (F. P. Yockey)
>White Power (George Lincoln Rockwell)
>Can Life Prevail (P. Linkola)
>The Lightning and the Sun (Savitri Devi)
>A Handbook of Traditional Living 1: Theory & Practice (RAIDO)
>A Handbook of Traditional Living 2: Style & Ascesis (RAIDO)
>Metaphysics of War (J. Evola)
>A handbook for Right-Wing Youth (J. Evola)
>The Crisis of the Modern World (Rene Guenon)
>Plato: The Complete Works
>The Enneads (Plotinus)
>Complete Works of Aristotle
>Essays: First Series (Emerson)
>Essays: Second Series (Emerson)

Alas, this is not simply "the humanities." The "humanities" as taught by modern, corrupt universities, is undoubtedbly a waste of time. But the Great Books outline the origins of civilization, include its major historical developments, its majorphilosphical developments, major advances in science, mathematics, mechanics, and so much more. It's an all-encompassing education, which will render you immune to the worst influences of our decayed moment, and able to see all that is wrong with it, should you have the will and ability to observe what most refuse to see.

The set is quite a committment.

Many charge for the individual books at a rate which is equal to, or even less than, purchasing the set in full. Always check the math, then take into consideration wether or not paying in iterations is worth more than purchasing in full, should the set cost less than the individual books.

Nice thread. I recommend "The Master Key Society" youtube channel.

MUH BOOKS

I recognize the codes on those books. I went there too
