Looking at a map I have a feeling Mykolaiv is extremely defensible, the slopes face east, it is situated on a narrow peninsula, and the bridge is exactly below the highest point of the city.
I doubt encircling is a possibillity, they'd have to swing north around the city through a wide river mouth, with few bridges and a massive hinterland.
I doubt Russia will be able to take Odessa unless the situation changes greatly
