The police officer who shot at a 16-year-old boy during a farmers’ protest earlier this month is now the subject of a criminal investigation, the public prosecution department said on Friday. The police officer, who could face attempted manslaughter charges, fired at the teenager who was driving a tractor during a protest on the A32 near Heerenveen. The boy was not hit by the bullet during the incident, which was captured on film. Police said at the time the youngster and other protesters wanted to drive at them and that they feared for their lives. The youth, named as Jouke, initially faced attempted manslaughter charges but the case was later dropped. The public prosecution department said on Friday that the preliminary police investigation showed the officer used his gun ‘in such a way that there is sufficient reason’ to look into charging him with attempted manslaughter. Only when the investigation is completed will officials decide if the officer should face charges and a trial. Two other police officers also faced an investigation for using their guns during the protest. Both were found not to have acted in line with police guidelines and their cases will be dealt with internally, the public prosecution department said.

Inflation and higher raw materials prices have made meat replacement products a cheaper option than meat, a price comparison conducted by analyst Questionmark on behalf of vegetarian food promotor ProVeg has shown. In February the average price for plant-based burgers at the six main supermarket chains was 56 cents higher per kilo than the meat variety but is now 78 cents lower, the research found. Plant based ‘chicken’ nuggets are now 37 cents cheaper per kilo while mince is €1.36 cheaper. Not all supermarkets show the same average price differences, the researchers found, although all show the same general trend. Aldi and Lidl showed the biggest gain for people switching to meat replacements. Burgers are €6 cheaper per kilo at the chains, up €4 compared to February. ‘We see that price rises are prompting consumers to opt for discount supermarkets such as Lidl and Aldi. They can shop there even more cheaply if they buy a meat replacement product instead of meat more often,’ VegPro spokesman Pablo Moleman said. Production costs The reason the differences are becoming more marked is because meat has become much more expensive to produce. The knock on effect on prices has meant that meat has become 21% more expensive and plant-based products only 2%, VegPro said. Apart from inflation and more expensive raw products meat prices are also high because of its inefficient production process, Moleman said. ‘Meat has always been very high on raw material use. You need ten kilos of grain to make one kilo of meat. Now that raw materials are getting scarce prices are fluctuating in a more volatile market.’ Moleman also said differences in profit margins – which are small for meat and big for meat replacements – may play a role. ‘Higher margins of up to 35% have served as a buffer in the case of meat replacements but with meat, which only has a margin of perhaps 8%, supermarkets have no choice but to increase the price,’ Moleman said.
Hope that police officer gets charged, irresponcible twat. Live in a farming area here in bong, and we love what you guys are doing.

Many Dutch ATMs will be out of service more frequently this summer Many ATMs in the Netherlands will be unusable with some regularity this summer, said ATM provider Geldmaat and secure transport firm Brink's. There is a staff shortage at Brink's, which does not have enough workers to refill the cash dispensers. This can lead to consumers standing in front of an empty machine when they want to withdraw money in a shop or on the street.
The companies also said that the holiday period and absenteeism due to illness will lead to a reduction in available staff. This will exacerbate the problem of Re supplying the ATMs during the summer period. "We are doing everything we can to meet the requested capacity, but it may be that an ATM falls out of service for longer than average during the summer," said Bas Rodenberg, director of Brink's in the Netherlands.
Higher priority locations will be given preference when emptying and filling cash machines. This includes ATMs in touristic locations.
Geldmaat advised consumers and business customers to use their location guide to find alternate ATMs and to see which ones are online available. Geldmaat also advised "not to wait until the last minute" before depositing or withdrawing money. "If more people make withdrawals at staggered moments, this will reduce the peak load," said Peggy Corstens, Director of Operations at Geldmaat.
Geldmaat pointed out that there are also ATMs in many stores, but that people are not always aware of this. These can be found in Albert Heijn supermarkets, Primera, Bruna and Readshop. Retailers who work with Brink's will be informed of the potential disruptions.
For several years now, consumers have been making payments less with cash and more with debit cards or smartphones. This is partly due to the coronavirus pandemic, when retailers often asked customers to use a debit card in order to limit personal contact. People are also still getting used to the new Geldmaat locations, the manager said.
Hi guys, I just came back from my trip to the Netherlands and I wanted to thank you for the tips you gave me. It's an amazing country (especially for art and history).
