Its only a leftist thing in America. In Europe public transit is something everyone wants because life is much better when you don't need a car for everyday errands or to get to work. I moved to Europe and year ago and it feels amazing to have a farmers market, grocery store, bakery, doctors office, park, gym, pharmacy, postal office and pretty much everything within a 5-10 minute walk from my front door. Urban life should experienced on foot.
