You just cant have offensive without outnumbering the defender at least 3:1, today it seems to be more of a 5:1.

Russia just went total mobilization which is pretty meta. Putin is just delaying to finish his focus which gives him free cores on Ukraine and a war goal against Poland.

You can- the russians are outnumbered in totals- locally they have the advantage. A easy to comprehend concept called concentration of forces. That is the -purpose of the horse shoe invasion from the start of the conflict- they thinned the Ukrainian army and forced them to reposition.

You can when you have a comical artillery, airpower superiority. Its why Russia isn't advancing very vast however because they have to blast Ukrainian positions before they move in.

They still are shoring up defenses in Odessa and holding the border along Belarus- The Russians or Belarus can walk in at any time- they need to have enough men there to ensure they aren't blindsided again. They are pinned down. There's a reason the million man march is a joke- If the Russians see they are advancing with practically every single man they will leave kherson and swing up north then attempt to attrition the Ukrainians tht are chasing them through destroying their tailing supplies and hit their slow moving columns. The concentration of forces of all of Ukraine will only leave every other city lightly defended that Russia can get to very easily and that is every city to the north and the east- from Belarus they can take Lviv within days and cut off the Ukrainians from Poland. The nature of the Geography means that Russia has easy access to 80% of the North and East of the country. Ukraine has to defend all of that if it doesn't want to get out-manouvered.

They've tried several times and they get obliterated every single attempt.

Ukranian artillery is entirely Russian produced, from the cold war era. The artillery being sent to it by NATO is stuff that was left over from the cold war in former Warsaw Pact states that have joined NATO. So is the ammunition. That resource is now exhuasted and there's no more Russian made ammo coming.

Putin on the other hand has doubled the number of workers on his artillery ammunition assembly line and has doubled his output. There's no end of artillery ammuntion for the Russian forces. Modern western based artillery is only coming into the battle in bits and pieces nowhere near enough to change the tide of battle. Ukraine forces are slowly but surely getting chewed up. They should have negotiated some kind of a deal two months ago.
But neither Ukraine nor Russia is the main point of this war. Germany is. That is the big crisis, a prearranged crisis; it's an attack on Germany's entire economy and it's succeeding.
