Technically, they didn't do anything, because Ariel isn't fucking real.
Grow up, faggot, who gives a shit? Are you really going to fall for this blatant ad campaign viral marketing bullshit?
Camden Hughes
The film received such a backlash that I'm pretty they delayed it with worries of a financial loss, under the guise of another reason.

Hollywood has a history of changing things out
Couldn't black mermaids exist?
It's cringe when Hollywood would use Chinese to play Japanese soldiers in WWII movies.. while their characters spoke Chinese instead of Japanese or Japanese babble. Or even get real Japanese Americans who served in Internment camps to play the parts.

Is this movie ever coming out, or is this another one of those scams where Disney claims they're going to turn an iconic character into a nigger but then the movie is quietly shelved?
I've been hearing about this since 2019.
Isaac Powell

No, black mermaids couldn't exist. Increased melanin resulting in darker skin is an adaptation caused increased exposure to sunlight. Mermaids live underwater and don't come to the surface much, so there's no reason for them to have increased melanin production.
