That's exactly the point, in Germany a lot of politicians were involved in 'masken deals' worth millions of dollars. It's all just empty words these days and all of them have to get shot, but instead they keep the money + get a $10k pension a month for the rest of their life.
Remember the 'Guttenberg-Affäre' that led to his resignation because he copied a few lines in his dissertation? These days politicians make million dollar deals with big companies without any kind of consequences.
