I think the most ironic thing about anime's influence on the West is it really picked up 6-7 years ago when Porter Robinson had A-1 and Crunchyroll animate a music video depicting a girl remembering how her widower of a father saved her from the world ending while still providing her with a full childhood of wonderful and happy memories, finding resolve in them to carry on and move forward while thanking him.
Now, you Crunchyroll destroyed their reputation by using customers' money to create a total disaster of a "magical girl academy" series that was full of naked misandry and hatred for tradition, and an episode of a boy being groomed into transitioning to being a girl.
Anime isn't the problem as it's merely an artistic style. The problem is the cultural cancer that incubated on sites like tumblr did to anime what they do to everything that welcomes them in.
