Can't afford what? an AC set to cool or dry the air consumes like 500-1000W and it doesn't even run the compressor all the time so it can fall to below 100W for periods of time.
Even if electricity is more expensive where you live I doubt it comes up to more than 1 EUR per day, you probably spend more on coffee and cigarettes.

It's pretty fucking simple.

There are plenty of place in the USA that are hot year-round. Think Nevada, Sothern Cali, Arizona etc. Aircon businesses are naturally required in these places.

Their costs to market and sell to states that are hot "some of the time" are greatly reduced because it's one fucking country.

It's a dynamic that isn't really appreciable when your country is small enough to have a consistent climate.
