As predicted, NASA is priming the world for the news that the limited number of clearly photoshopped images released will be the only ones ever to be released due to unanticipated micrometeoroid impacts.
Telescopes have lenses. The Infrared band is no exception. Flat, rubidium-doped gold-plated beryllium is for neutrino detectors and highly sensitive radio direction finders used to detect unseen foreign spy satellites by detecting EM bleedthrough when they transmit their gathered images back to Moscow/Beijing etc.
Once again, NASA has proven the scientific illiteracy of the general public and the media's willingness to be party to a cover-up of historic proportions. JWST was and always has been a slush fund, primarily for a program that calls for a neutrino detector involving temporal science that I have talked about at some length.
