Wonder how common that was, you always see it in the movies and i dont doubt it happened, some people whip horses to death and all that. But i cant imagine it being that common, even if you view them as barely more then livestock it had to have been looked down upon as cruel and poor way to motivate them. Not to mention the poor economics of it, loss of work because healing, health care, infection and death etc. You could inflict a lot of pain on some one without breaking that much skin.

The funny thing is I've only met 1 nigger who knew for sure she descended from slaves and she was an old lady who blamed all of humanity for doing this to each other for thousands of years, no matter what race, and she thought that blacks spending so much thought for vengeance would just repeat the cycle in one way or another.
