Trains are legitimately a good way to transport freight, and people if in high density areas. But no where outside of China, Europe, India, and South East Asia ever see that population density. Plus trains give you a means of control over people because it literally is a line from point A to point B without having anything inbetween or room to take other routes.

High speed rail is a scam, a boondoogle, a fraud. Just go look at California for comparison. Tens of billions spent, and the result was enriching Nancy Pelosi's husband and friends who had property holdings along the proposed corridor.
Also there was no bigger fraud speaking in front of Congress than James Hansen, who arranged for the fucking A/C to be turned off so he'd be filmed sweating for dramatic effect.
