No I think your eyes are fine. But the textbook explaining the reason might be a bit off. Just imagine gluing a fine grain of sand onto a billiard ball. How could the grain of sand possibly produce that steep a shadow? Well it could, if the sun was far beneath it (which it essentially is in the ball earth model), but before that point, it would have been long obscured by the curvature of the ball itself. This is irrefutable I am afraid. Actually these mountain images are big evidence that earth is definetly not round, as they say.
