Answer this correctly or else nothing happens tonight

No bullshit, what's the actual answer proven by peer-reviewed studies?
Grayson Stewart

Noah Davis
It's 6.
I'm saging by the way.
Mason Reed
9, and pre 1917 it would be 1
Isaiah Nguyen
6/2(1+2)
6/2(3)

The answer is 9, but if anyone really wrote it like that, they would mean for the answer to be 1.
Xavier Anderson
I'd bet on this chad.
Carter Smith
>t.
Leo Moore
Just use reverse polish notation and this would be no problem.
Jaxson Cruz
Boomers say it's 1 because they were taught that you have to do multiplication before division, which is false(division is multiplication by less than one)
Sweaty neckbeards will say one, or some random number, because "EHRM ACKTHUALLY ACCORDING TO THIS PAPER FROM 1867 THE USE OF THE MULTIPLICATION SYMBOL MEANS BLAH BLAH BLAH"
The true answer according to proper orders of operation and contemporary use of the division symbol in basic arithmetic, is 9
Juan Lee
Come on. You can't have this thread without a couple of sixes as the answer.
It's 9. I can prove it beyond any doubt at this point.
Ryan Morales
it actually depends on the conventions adopted. however you wouldn't waste time putting the parentheses there if you didn't intend for it to be completed first, it's more like the first layer calculation while everything else is a layer under
Julian Hill
Parker Sullivan
I read all that and came to the conclusion that even mathematicians are party-tricking faggots.

no one uses the ÷ sign. it's just for teaching children. in any real context where math is used, you present it as a fraction and the boomers would be right.
Lincoln Ross
6 / 2(1+2) = x
6 / (1 + 2) = x/2
6 / 3 = x/2
2 = x/2
1 = x

I hate that I typed this into my calculator and the answer wasn't 1
Jackson Rodriguez
There is no answer. Thats why it gets posted here so much. Because people always argue about it.
Parker Richardson
Yeah we get it, you took a math class at university and are too grown up and sweaty to use the ÷ symbol, please go brush your teeth.

It's simply the symbol of notation used. The '/' falls into the order of operations PEMDAS, meaning multiplication comes first, then division.
However the '÷' symbol is actually equivalent to multiplication, so it would be based on left to right I believe. Not sure. I just know that ÷ and × have an equivalent precedence level. Meaning one does not come before the other.
Parker Edwards
Treefiddy
Easton Green
But using a fraction, everyone would get it the same because it removes the problem here
Julian Mitchell
>implying
if you write it as a fraction and still get 1 you're even more retarded.
Juan Taylor
There is no + before the 1+2, how should i know its 9 instead of 6
Caleb Phillips
Are you mentally ill? How can you make 1 out of this when it's a fraction? A fraction isnt an operation its a number of its own.

Nice try.
>6/*3=?
The proper way is 6*3=x/2 or 9.
