The first legal slave owner in America was black, and he owned another black man who came to America "free". The plantation owner went to court and argued it was "the custom of his people to keep each other as slaves" (true). For this reason, his indentured worker John Casor should NOT be released from his contract. The judge agreed, and let him keep John Casor as permanent property instead of ending his contract as indentured labor. Ironically, most white laborers in the colonies were also there as indentured laborers, subject to a minimum 7 years contract to pay for their transport to the colonies. These contracts were binding, and anyone fleeing indenture could be hunted and returned to their boss as any slave would be (so it was slavery). Since the legal precedent was now that it was "customary" for niggers to keep each other as slaves, this became the basis for racial slavery in the colonies. Niggers became the only race that could be indentured permanently, and this became the era of slavery. Many other free black land owners would own slaves in the coming centuries, and many fought for the Confederacy in the civil war.

At least 14 African countries have legal slavery written into their constitutions, they won't give it up. They fought wars against European powers to keep their slaves when whites tried to ban it worldwide.
