It's a reasonable interpretation. Aggressive mimicry is a common phenomenon in nature. There is no reason to assume that humans can't be fooled. Their sexual impulses are rather easy to exploit. If granted the freedom, they have sex with absolutely everything.

Consider the fact that 1 of 2 things has to be happening. Either:
1. Your brain is doing extra work for some reason and distorting the perception of the faces and in reality the faces are completely normal, or;
2. Your brain is failing to do something it typically does when viewing faces, and the “distorted” images are the real versions.
