Small towns all tend to be more conservative. Not that you won't still find plenty of liberals who moved out there, but nobody wants to put up with the crap laws that created all the cringe, violence, and homeless drug abused mess that Seattle and Portland have.
Beautiful place to visit outside the big cities. We have a really large beer & wine culture, and huge music, movies, art and game festivals every week until late autumn.
