There are claims in CI that Gaelige is one of the pre-Hebrew languages of early transcriptions of some books of the bible. That it has entymological and translation relevance for interpretation. There were native speakers abused on one of the buses in Dublin by local chavs because they thought they were foreign. Irish was used in UN peacekeeping missions in Africa by Irish soldiers (so they wouldnt know what was said in communications). It worked for awhile, but some of the Africans decided to learn Irish ironically enough, and the game was up. I'd love to see it come back, especially being in a gaeltacht area myself, but it aint coming back sadly.
