they invested way too much of their emotions, time, etc etc into a world that has already died but they won’t admit it. it’d be like saying everything you believed in was a lie, every act you took was supervised and preapproved as the good goy generation followed by the gooder goy gen, and this one happened to live longer than he was supposed to. now he gets to see the fruits of ‘his’ ie his country’s labor. and all he can say to himself is that we went astray at some point, he will die believing the america he grew up in and fought for was anything but the precursor to today’s america.
