You see, China imports like 85% of it's energy by sea, but over 90% of Chinas military can't even travel 1000 miles from China. Would be very easy to simply blockade these shipments to China and there is nothing China can do to retaliate.
Given Chinas agriculture is all industrialised, this lack of energy means China suddenly has no fuel to power all the machines it uses to farm. Which means most of China starves.
Naturally these blockades could also effect food of which China is a massive importer of as well.

If China started a war with the US, within 3 months hundreds of millions of Chinese would be starving to death, and within a year so many Chinese would have died of starvation their population would be smaller than Japans.
