Asking a source is jot wrong per se. It’s a problem when it becomes a pavlovian response to everything that doesn’t fit your programming.

Because it brings credibility to your claims if you can show that you’ve actually done research about the subject you’re discussing instead of just pulling bullshit out of your ass.

Was listening to NPR yesterday (I know, terrible mistake) as they were talking about Steve Bannon testifying at the Jan 6 show trials. The “expert” they were interviewing said something along the lines of “Bannon is ready to testify so he can spread misinformation regarding the events surrounding that day.”

Literally you can have a first-hand source and the left will already label it misinformation if it doesn’t fit the narrative they are selling. I mean they were calling his words “misinformation” preemptively.

So it’s not really about the source per se, it’s just another tool to control the narrative.

Because leftists are typically college educated. College is all about citing your sources, but not because academia is interested in reaching the truth, but because there are literally thousands if not tens of thousands of people employed by colleges who need to justify their employment by churning out some shitty research paper every once in a while. The same thing for the students, in order to earn a masters degree you need to prove that you can operate within the corrupt academic process. This is how you get shitty papers like "diet and exercise have absolutely no connection to weight gain and loss" and then some liberal arts major will take that shitty paper and write "the fatphobic health industry is actually misdiagnosing fatties" and then someone will take that paper and do a ted talk on it and before you know it everyone on tiktok is spouting this bullshit that they got from "research" without actually questioning if the source was valid to begin with.

Since when is providing sources for some of your claims a bad thing anyway?

If the people you refer to as "leftists" suddenly start talking about global happiness and freedom, are you going to argue from a "contrarian" stance just for the sake of it?
