A convicted sex offender who moved to the north from Croydon without anybody checking up on him went on to slash a teenage girl's throat on a bus. Hamid Akhonzada, 26, was sitting behind a young couple on a bus when he grabbed the 17-year-old by the hair, held her head back and dragged a steak knife across her throat. Akhonzada fled the scene of the attack in Runcorn, Cheshire, and headed back to Croydon where he had previously lived. He was arrested on May 14, 2021, six days after the bus attack.
