It's even worse now that I looked it up a bit. You are not even allowed to burn regular sticks. You have to burn special wood or woodchip pallets that have certain properties (and of course that costs extra). It's complete madness.

It's perfectly legal but highly regulated. Once a year the chimney sweeper will walk through your apartment and checks your fireplace. For instance now need some sort of bullshit on your kitchen windows that breaks the circuit of your oven fan. Don't know what to call it. The thing above the stove dealing with fumes. If the window is closed you can't turn it on because they felt like having to regulate you not being able to run your fireplace and the kitchen fan at the same time, without fresh air supply.

Another example would be you being forced to have a spring attached to the door of your closed fireplace, so it will shut itself. Which is bullshit. So I have to remove the spring and reattach it again for the yearly appointment.

Yeah it's getting more and more extreme. Last time there was some talk about not being allowed to use the same chimney for your fireplace and the exhaust fumes of your heating unite. I don't remember the whole thing in its entirety but it might result in you not being allowed to run it anymore.
