I think it may have to do with less young people driving. I got no license, and the only places in walking distance are shitty minimum wage joints. I know a lot of people in the same boat - you either gotta set up some way to carpool with someone or pay for uber, the latter of which will bite down pretty hard into a min wage paycheck if you can even afford it at all.
