Today I realized imprisoning people is actually even worse than forcing them to work like slaves or physically punishing them. Not in a moral way but in what both society and the prisoners get from it. It’s extremely negative for everybody.
Of course there are people that just can’t be on the loose, but at the same time, prisons just consume money and the lives of the ones imprisoned. It creates nothing positive.

It depends. I think it would help with lower level criminals if prison jobs had to pay at least minimum wage. Let the cooperative/non-violent inmates work a job that pays more than 20 cents an hour, this way have a good reason to stay in line, not go mad with complete boredom, and have at least a little to lose when they leave prison.

Interesting documentary on this prison that Japan has for foreigners. They give the prisoners a reasonable amount of activity that they can do, even having sports and shit. They have this hilarious punishment for problem prisoners, they force them to sit in a chair and stare at the wall all day, every day, for like a month.
