As per gun regulation law >you can own for hunting. need to be a member of a local hunting club for that which is a separate process with separate exams >sports. Need to be a member of a shooting club for that, which includes mandatory number of rounds shot per year >self defense. Most lightly regulated BUT you need to perform a shooting accuracy test every time you renew your gun license (every five years).
If you were part of the military, like lets say the mercenary battalion for peace keeping purposes or a straight up NCO/officer in regular army, then you get the (civilian) gun license without any exams. To even get to the exams you need to complete mandatory 16h (two days) first aid course, psychiatric evaluation in frame of a general medical observations and be a non felon.
There is a separate license concerning straight up mil gear like full auto rifles. That is handled by the guerillas/military and the weapons go into a separate military weaponry registry which includes everything the army has as well as the guerillas.
The (civ) exams are pretty rough as it requires for you to fully memorize the full gun regulation law which is about 60-70 pages worth of paragraphs concerning the classifications, different regulation handlings concerning contracts like weapon sales or disowning them to the state etc.
Once you complete your theoretical exam you need to perform a practical test which include hitting a target at 10meter range with a hand pistol/revolver and then a 25meter test with a scoped sports rifle.
Range of weapons you can own are pretty standard civvie fair: bolt action rifles/semi autos/smooth bore (i.e. shotty are regular two barrel)/pistol/revolver/all of the semi lethal to non lethals.
