V for Vendetta is an unintentionally critique of *statism*. Moore was attempting to just critique right-wing politics, but failed. As often happens, he lost control of the vision by executing it too well.
That means that it ends up appealing to anyone who hates our current left-wing state structures just as much as those who hate historical right-wing state structures.
And in Watchmen, the character who comes closest to being right is Rorshach. He's right in his critique of the society as depicted, he's right in his critique of his fellow "heroes"...he's even the one who actually NOTICES and then SOLVES the mystery. And even after he dies, the implication of the final panel is that he's going to beat Vendt in the end. That was kind of a foolish way to construct a character if you wanted readers to laugh at him.
