It's called buying the trim level that includes what you want at the time of purchase. My car has heated seats 365 days per year even though I only use them in the winter. I bought this car because it had them, knowing I would only use them in the winter.
The article says 25% of people are ok with this. Things are falling apart much faster than I expected.

It’s usually some nonesense like “passing the savings onto the consumer, if you don’t want that feature, don’t pay for it”. I'm willing to give them a pass on autonomous driving, which I think is a one-time charge anyway. Not buggy software is a significant component to making that work, in a way that doesn't exist in using 100% of a battery's capacity or a seat heater. reverse-engineering and hacking the jew is largely a popularity contest. In tech, once something is popular enough it 100% spawns hacking groups.
