The democracy system is like choosing your spouse by your free will. The authoritarianism system is like choosing your spouse by arranged marriage.
But both marriage systems have tremendous failure rate. The divorce rate in the US is like 50%. And if you add the failed relationship rate to the sum, the divorce rate could be much higher. Which means most people will choose a wrong person, either for marriage or for political reasons, by free will.
But the arranged marriage system also sucks. India has a very low divorce rate (less than 1%) but most women and men in India cheat. Which also means arranged marriage will very likely to give people incompatible spouses, just like the authoritarianism system will very likely give people bad leaders.
So in short, both systems suck. But which is the lesser evil? Would you prefer free-will love and democracy, or arranged marriage and authoritarianism?
