Current recruitment numbers are extremely low and israel is unpopular outside of the Boomer generation. Its a different time and there's no appetite for war especially not another middle eastern war. Iraq war was close enough to ride the 9/11 rage. Barring a major "foreign" attack, I don't see anything changing and in these deeply divided times, there's not even a target whose destruction would unify enough people.

unpopular presidents have been known to declare war as a distraction but I don't think enough fighting age people care about Iran or israel. Our generals wargamed a conflict with Iran a few years ago and while we would win, it would cost us damn near everything we have and render us a non-player militarily for future conflicts.
