The question isn't that images are not taken it is what the images actually look like. The images are all in B&W because it is all done in infrared. They then look at the wavelengths in the data & then add the colours in post processing. Basically painting by numbers. Is it actually wrong, probably not because that is all they have. But it really is being portrayed by a lot & it is really in the small print that the images shown were simply taken via the Webb telescope & simply uploaded to Earth & then the web.

it's an array of sensors capturing the entire electromagnetic spectrum and the data is processed into images. comparatively little of the image content is actual visible light captured on a normal camera sensor, it has to be converted into the visible color/light spectrum (e.g., infrared nebulae)
