I forgot about the pilot. But what I appreciate is that the Ripley character's strength is from keeping her head straight and taking the alien threat seriously from the beginning, not from being some kind of macho badass like the Marines. Likewise the girl, the only colonist to survive, did so by hiding.

Also, iirc, nothing she did was unrealistic for a woman of her size. During her escape attempt from the mental hospital she used guile and ambushes as opposed to just charging at multiple orderliness and knocking them all out with one punch. She knew she couldn't fight the T-1000 head on so she focused on trying to get her and her son away from it. And despite being this hardened, lethal person she still had clear maternal instincts and a sense of morality.

The other nice thing about her is that she consulted Chakotay and Tuvok, responsible male figures even though she outranked them, far more than any other captains did. The writers here recognized that a woman captain would still make impulsive stupid decisions without that check.
Voyager writers failed on all other fronts though, the show was repetitive as shit and even Enterprise was better in every imaginable way.
