Oleg Ustenko, economic adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said Ukraine now needs $9 billion a month from its Western lenders to make up the budget deficit, almost double the previous request.
The Treasury Department said its estimate of the gap was still $5 billion a month, but even that is far more than Western capitals have provided so far. “In the coming months, we should receive $9 billion a month instead of $5 billion,” Ustenko said.
“We will try to survive in any case, but without financial support from our allies it will not only be difficult to do so, it will be almost impossible.”
