You know what happens when one of those platforms jams after a fatass uses one? Or a fatass plugs up one of those? There's a reason why fire escapes don't have moving parts user. It's a nice little thing to show off, but completely unnecessary.

Can't wait to see one of these platforms fail to sink down. And as all the people above are coming down not knowing it, they will pile up on top of each other until they push each other off the balcony or the entire thing just crumbles under the weight and everyone falls to their deaths.

Because in an actual fire it won't work like that. People are going to try to cram themselves 3 to a lift, the lift will break or jam, people will push eachother over the balconies to get to the lifts. Its a disaster wrapped up in a nice little fund misappropriation package.

This. There will be human crushes around those things, and if even one fails to work, people won't try to go through the apartment to get to inside stairs, they'll do something stupid like trying to crawl down the outside to reach the next balcony.
Choke points and moving parts are not your friend in an evacuation situation. Anything that has to be opened or moved can easily fail to do so, and anything not wide enough for a stampeding, panicked crowd will become jammed with bodies.

Seems to me like they're only capable of carrying heavy loads downwards. The mechanism used to return the platform to the top probably isn't nearly strong enough to lift a person, and I doubt it'd be motorized. Aside from the moving parts, a fire escape that can only be used to travel downwards from any given floor isn't a bad idea for crime prevention.

They can just do that with normal fire escapes, too.

Wouldnt work in America. Minorities will use them to break into peoples homes. Then people would intentionally leave them locked up when gone and well you can see how that could go wrong.
