Because western Europeans have a massive inferiority complex masquerading as a superiority complex. They think they're better than us, and we think we're better than them, but the difference between us is we don't care what they think. We can't point their countries out on a map, we don't know their country's capitals, we don't know their country's history and we have 0 desire to learn. But they are fucking obsessed with us and they care very deeply about what we think. They want us to see them as the shining beacon to emulate and they want us to be more like them, but when we are at our lowest moment and we still don't make a passing glance at Europe, it burns them alive because nothing European matters if America doesn't specifically sign off on it.
