A pretty big difference is that the afghan national army weren't being asked to defend their homes from a foreign power, they were being asked to help a foreign power occupy their homes. Even taking into account the talibans many faults that's a big ask.

It is, in fact fake, yes.
Most of the people working for my company have not been conscripted, and they're mostly 20-35.
From the looks of it, the only conscription right now (not in Ukraine, just having an office there) is of reservists and territorials.
But for some reason, vatniks have been really desperate to push the idea of some mass conscription drive that pick absolutely random people in the middle of the beach or in front of stores.
Probably as a way to cope with what's going on in Russia right now. Or perhaps they're just projecting Dalits who are desperate for "proof" of Europeans being as pathetic as they are.
The second thesis seems more likely, since Ukraine is far from perfect and full of actual problems, yet somehow the vatniks on /k/ never mention them.

Incredible. Take some riot police, add them to a force that obviously has tanks, IFVs, and an overwhelming advantage in air support and guided missiles, and they can fight like a real military.

Donbass has a lot of ethnic Russians, many of which have been caught in the crossfire of several years of civil war. If it was left up to them I could see them voting to join Russia.
Of course it then raises the question of why there are ethnic Russians in ukraine in the first place and the answer is the same as to why transinistria and Kalingrad exist.
I've assumed Russia has been replacing the casualties of there "special operation" with Fresh bodies for the sake of optics
Russia has funded a lot of eauropean Green parties and even some "right wing" (see france) parties throughout Europe that align with there interests
