Which transceiver do you suggest me to buy? I live both in a rural and an urban area (I have to homes). I don’t know if this can help in my choice. I need a general purpose one, especially in a preppy scenario. Are picrel any good, or do you suggest other ones?

one that doesnt come from china maybe nigger

Any suggestion, mutt?

I have UV 5R. Seems to work well. Don't use it much because I have an SDR-RTL.

read the reviews and decide for yourself

Check /out/ they usually have radio threads

both are shit

Buy the Sugon 500, best model I have ever used. Korean made.

>SDR-RTL.
Is computer-based/software-defined radio worth it?
Well, I’m open to people with suggestions based on their experience.

I don't know your laws, or which freqs you guys use, or your use case. Buy a shitty baofeng uv-5r, or drop a few hundred on a real brand name unit. If you're gonna prepfag, make sure you have a way to recharge your batteries before you spend any real cash on a nicer unit.

sugon these balls lmao

On a SHTF POV I’ll care less about radio regulations tbqh.

9 also has much more power but the 5 has lots of very cheap accessories (bigger batt, AAAx6 batt, big antenne for $2 on Ebay makes big diff and looks cool to impress chicks.

DESU you need both!

2 of the 5s can be connected to make repeater, not sure if wires work with 9.

5 has stout clip for wearing, 9 has "interesting" hanging swinging holder

also DIY has HAM

I wouldn't suggest a handheld to be honest. They simply don't work that well. I have a 50 Watt VHF mounted in my work truck which works well, programmed with common channels others are most likely to use. It's an ICOM radio, but Motorola and Kenwood are good too. Those cheap Baofeng's are just toys.

What do you think of the BF-F8HP?

Fair enough, just dont assume the power going out means that no one will come looking for you. Transmissions during emergencies will imply resources, and that makes you a target. Learn about direction finding techniques and weigh the risks.

Personally I will be 100% non-emissive with my if anything that bad ever happens.

I have both the 5r and the f8. For the price id rather have to 5r's and give one to a friend, but the f8 is a bit higher power.

The difference between 5 and 8 watts is pretty negligible unless you climb a tree or run a remote antenna.

rather have two*

Can't type today.

I don't use it very often but it is pretty fun to play with. It's amazing how much radio transmissions and taking place.
It was fairly cheap and I'd say it is worth it just to learn about radio.

No they aren't you dumb nigger. If you have a 50 watt in your truck with repeat functions you effectively have the range of your truck as long as you're within range of your truck. Yeah, the truck radio is better, no shit. But you can't carry a truck.
