The most literal reading of the Bible states time and time again that everything wrong is because of the iniquity held in the hearts of men. Is the only way to commit evil to undertake some evil act? No. What good is a life worth of good deeds done by a man who held wickedness in his heart? That's not goodness. That's not righteousness. That's discipline, biding ones tike, but certainly not the absence of evil. In fact the Bible goes on and on and on about the power that the heart and mind wield and thus it is expounded upon all throughout that book how important it is to guard ones own heart and not allow iniquity to fester there.
Truly, one who walks without any wickedness in their heart, who also does not know the Bible, is better than someone who says they know Jesus but does not walk as a biblical man. This is not complicated, stop allowing the mental traps of the pharisees to confuse you.
