The magma wants to expand (maximize the amount of the surrounding area it takes up) like any liquid. If you have a tiling of initially circular droplets, they expand by forming hexagons. The same phenomenon causes beehives to be hexagonal, despite the bees making them as round droplets initially.

No. Back in the days the ozone layer was 10 times bigger than today, the result was EVERY LIVING BEING WAS WAY BIGGER BEFORE.
