China is doing fine. As a matter of fact it will be better if chinese population is kept below 800 million. The territory of china is not big enough to feed 1 billion people without depending on external markets. All it takes is sanctions against china and millions would starve. It's a wise idea to keep the population of a more isolationist country like china small enough to feed everyone with food produced in the territory. Constant growth of population doesn't indicate something good. It indicates lack of long term planning and is also a weakness that can easily exploited. When there are too many people in a country, the life of every individial will be worse.
