Boomer dad found out degrees are worthless

>be me years ago, naive teenager
>dad tells me to go to uni after high school, i figured he knew better than me so i went a head
>ffw to now, i'm 221 and graduating this year
>have realised my degree is just a piece of paper and nobody gives a shit if you have a Bachelor's degree anymore
>I decide to go to the tools and become a landscaper (I start on Wednesday)
>dad is MORTIFIED that I would become a tradie and was almost unconsolable
>he asks, "why don't you get a job with your business degree?"
>I told him degrees are worthless because anybody can get them now, they let the most retarded cunts in these days
>he disagrees and says "it's harder than ever to get into uni now"
>wat
>to prove me wrong about job prospects he goes on seek.com.au and searches up a fucking ASX 100 company (for you seppos that's basically Fortune 500) to try and get me into a managerial position
>finds out you need years of experience
>so he lowers his standards and looks for other managerial jobs, and yep you still need real experience, they don't give a fuck about your degree
>I told him the average uni graduate works as a fast food server (and that this is not a joke but an actual statistic)
>then I said if you want work without experience then you can do McDonald's or you can do a trade
>"and even then with half the trade jobs you need a fuckin cert or ticket or permit or licence"
I love my old man but the boomer has never done a job search in a long time and definitely hasn't been keeping up with anything outside his job sphere. In the end he conceded that I should go to TAFE (for you seppos that's basically trade school) and become an electrician instead of a landscaper.

>just work harder

>become an electrician
one good electrician is worth a thousand paper-pushers

What does your dad do and why didn't he get you involved?
Boomers are such pieces of shit.

dont feel bad i have 10 IT certs and chose to do manual labor instead. just get your money. your old man will come around again. boomers and gen x are a little slow.

Electricians, plumbers, welders, pipe fitters, sheet metal workers, and to an extent elevator maintenance mechanics are dying fields that are a necessity. You can easily make 100k/yr by getting into one of those fields.
Landscaping isn't the best but if you can learn to use heavy equipment like backhoes/loaders you can easily translate that into real world experience.
Hope your dad didn't saddle you with college debt.

This. They actually don’t give a fuck what you do as long as you make money. That is a virtue to them.

Good luck with Landscaping.

as soon as the US gets rid of income tax and welfare for browns, then i'll get a job

>electrician instead of a landscaper
Not the worst advice, pay should be better and jobs are always available, landscaping is a nice-to-have, whereas electricity is a must-have.
Godspeed user.

I presume he's Australian using a vpn. Trade workers in Australia earn more than most white collar Europeans easily

There's a pretty good chance you'll be able to start your own company at some point once you get enough skills, experience and the right clientele and you'll put that business degree to better use than you ever would doing admin work in an office user

Tell me about it.
The only "downside" to being an electrician is the better you do your job, the less people actually notice your work.
They're the unsung heroes of construction.

Depends on what kind of degree. But if it's something that ends with "arts" it's literally worth toilet paper.
Scientific degrees that require mixed subjects (not just physics or chemistry, but interdisciplinary shit + programming) are valued a lot

>one good electrician is worth a thousand paper-pushers

Can confirm.

Over a lifetime a degree in stem/business/law/finance will net you 10x more than a non graduate.

For postgrads its 10-200,000x more money earned

You should try and get an internship or post grad

working a trade is financial and physical suicide. most will kill themselves at 40 and no woman over a 3/10 30+ year old will have sex or even look at you.

>Bachelor's degree
A fucking meme everywhere

Should have opted for Data analytics or computer science.

depends what you did but also nobody really. wants you if youre that young and have had absolutely zero jobs anyway

Your dad seems like a nice dude though. He actually changed his mind when presented with contradictory information.

user you have to rape your dad as punishment

The entirety of the boomer worldview is
>but this is the way I imagined it in my head 30 years ago. It has not been updated or adjusted since. It has never been tested since.
But they'll fight to the death to let everyone know they're right and everything and everyone else is wrong.

Learn Spanish and you're management potential.

Don’t become an electrician. It’s low-tier nigger work like landscaping. Look into more technical jobs like BMET or or some type of instrument tech. I absolutely hate the Any Forums position on jobs, like there’s not an entire sea of careers between being an engineer or being a fucking ditch digger.
