for real. i give them credit tho for supporting metal gear online even tho the numbers/player counts were low and after the row with kojima. in general tho, i think the game is 'finished', it's just we always want more for such a great game. my main criticism would be that for such vast sandboxs they made, it felt like NPCs/civilians were scrapped, and they do feel a bit empty, but only compared to say a game like GTA5. also i bought the combined ground zeros/phanton pain version with the included dlc like 4 years after the original release for $15 so lol good value.

I watched a Chinese action movie called The Taking of Tiger Mountain which has a similar tone. The Chinese film is adapting stage opera, and that is where the tone comes from. Kojima is emulating American cinema. So if its cheesy then it's the fault of American cinema for being cheesy.

i think some people take metal gear to seriously because on the surface, with all the accurate weapon designs, uniforms, military themes, it seems like it's trying very hard. but, it's actually mostly fantasy/fantastic reality/satire. i mean there is vampires and a guy who shoots bees out of his back straight out of ninja scroll. plus, kojima has been a boomer for almost 2 decades. unless you grew up in the 80s and 90s its easy to miss a lot of anime and cult movie references from escape from new york to stalker/roadside picnic.
also portable ops is crazy underrated, and sadly, almost impossible to play now unless you still have a psp.
Death Stranding feels way different. MGS 5 is so fluid and free, but in DS you are constantly fighting with terrain, which is the idea of course. But clearing out these little camps reminded me of MGS a bit.

mgsv is probably the lightest on story in the whole series. no 2 hour long cut-scenes. personally, i liked the story, very heavy of 1984 reference/satire.
