Does anyone have any good resources on the phoenicians? I keep running across these guys. Cretians in all probability were phoenicians. They also have a really close relationship with the jews but I still haven’t seen anything solid showing these are the same people. Anyone got anything that would clear this up?

Phoenicians were a group of people living in the Levant. They had mesopotamian (like sumerian and babylonians) mythological beliefs and religious practices. They became more hellenistic after Alexandre followed by Ptolemy (who was a greek installed as pharaoh by Alaxandre) conquered the area. It's pretty uncontroversial. Semites only write consonants with their alphabet, they generally don't need to write down vowels for the sentence to make sense.
