Japanese police have said that the motivation was not political, but instead related to the killer's mother's bankruptcy.
Ignoring the fact that you could still tease out a political motivation from that information alone, they also said the killer suspected Abe of being part of some unidentified group which they refuse to publicly name. But they also claim that the group may not even exist.
So how can the media report that the motivation wasn't political without knowing the group in question? If the killer said "I believe Abe was a sleeper agent for the Chicago Bulls" then yeah, he's an irl schizoposter and it wasn't political.
But if Japanese police are telling the truth and they don't know if the group is even real, this means it can't be a group like WEF because if the killer told them "I shot him coz I hate WEF" then they know full well that this is a real group.
So I think he was rambling about some broader esoteric conspiracy theory. For example, if he said something like "Abe was part of WEF but that is just part of a broader plot by elites to crash the world economy". At that point they can plead plausible deniability because they don't know if there is some broader shadow group controlling the WEF.
