I've done an essay in college specifically on homicide rates. It's an extremely dishonest statistic, because different countries define "murder" differently. If you accidentally run someone over with a car, is it legally murder? If a patient dies to medical malpractice, is it legally murder? If you tell a moron to kill himself, and he does, is it legally murder? People compiling these maps just pull the official stats from the countries' gov websites, and don't account for different legislatures.
