NATO has only ever been successful against small countries who had no support from the outside. Syria and Ukraine are the first instances where the US/NATO/NATO-proxies, at least since Vietnam, are fighting either Russia, China or a party supported by them.
In both cases NATO has failed completely. In the case of Afghanistan and Iraq there wasn't even a need for foreign interference, they failed regardless (with the occupations, the invasions were successful).
