Destiny and Vaush (and others like them) are really good at what I call "shallow spread" debate. The idea is to bring up as many facts as possible (the more the better) to sound credible on any particular matter, and to disallow going in depth on any particular idea by jumping to another fact to bring up another argument. The confusion that this process causes allows for room to bring up more facts about other topics, where the process repeats itself indefinitely. This is a similar approach used by a lot of bible thumpers (look up Kent Hovind debates). You can successfully use this style to come up with wild assertions and lines of argument and portray complete credibility.

They do research into topics and they have extremely good memories and high verbal IQ, they are able to keep the conversation together well, but most of their arguments are fractured and incomplete. The topics they debate don't lend themselves well to 3 hour verbal conversations, which is why academics stick to writing to adhere to strict rigor (or at least attempt to).
