If we had telepaths, they would never live happy lives not knowing if they get with anyone would cheat or think ill of them. Questioning everything. It's not a nice power to have. You can easily figure out who has an inner voice and who doesn't, which can correlate with intelligence for anyone below ~110 IQ or so. The smarter ones tend to think in a fast-paced "shorthand" that is more abstract and very hard to gather things from by eavesdropping. The voice vs no voice works great for most non-eastern Asian minorities though. Other than that, people don't think very cohesively like they speak. You can get used to that over time and pick up the sort of...shorthand, I guess, that brains tend to use, but this isn't universal and stops working when more complex thought is involved (hence the higher IQ problem). Also if you're in a fuckin hellhole surrounded by Mexicans you can't understand a fuckin word of it and if they even have an inner voice and it's honestly preferable if they don't just so you don't have to listen to it.
