sure it did. The basic beef at the end of his first administration was over the Second Bank of the United States. It served as a defacto central bank; handling the debt sales and financial transactions of the government with national and international banks.

As the only real game in town (compared with european banks with hundred year histories), it became the main place that state governments used to store their funds.

So Jackson is against the idea of a "national bank"; so he forces the situation by allowing the charter for the 2nd B of US to expire. Now, the bank has to divest all of it's funds; states can no longer store their money anywhere; and in the gaps, you have the banking legislation which would create what became known as "wildcat banks".

So somewhere around 1837-is; the government is divesting, and puts all of the peoples money into the wildcat banks; which operate a LOT like the current crypto theory.

When it all comes crashing down, the country winds up with almost no banks; all the money is gone, and it crushes production and real estate values; creating a bubble collapse.

When the crash happened (panic of 1837) it fucked everyone, and it could have (should have) been avoided.

But there was a definite need for some sort of currency in which to do regular transaction; and a definite lack of currency in the frontier of Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.

So a farmer wants to sell his crops to buy supplies for the farm, but no one has any specie (gold or silver coins from established government).

The bigger problem is that while the farmers didn't need money to live and get along with their neighbors; they DID need it to pay their taxes or to make purchases from the government.

In the political battle over the 2nd bank, the side that went with the "state banks", also insisted that the notes from these state banks be allowable as payment for taxes, etc.

Since the value of currency in wildcat/state banks was an illusion; the states suddenly got as payment of tax "money" printed in the backroom an hour earlier.

So, collapse happens, and all the states go broke too.
