We have first combat footage confirmation of Russia using T-62’s in the war. I remember them denying that this was happening when a train full of them was filmed being sent to Ukraine. Thoughts? Does this mean Russia is desperate for heavy weapons?

Real if impressive
>Does this mean Russia is desperate for heavy weapons?
More like they don't take the Cuckraine seriously as a military adversary.
They are just working through there obsolete tanks. I assume their new well maintained units will be reserved for when shit hits the fan and Russia is fighting German Leopards.
I think a more reasonable guess is that the terrible war consumption has caused Russia to produce the latest model of tanks at a production rate that can't keep up.
Because of the Western sanctions, the Russian tank factories were unable to obtain the vital chips to make the tank computer systems. This eventually led to a production halt.
So Russia decided to use older products, which it had in sufficient numbers in the first place. And it was wartime, so instead of throwing it in the junkyard to rot. It would be better to reactivate the T-62. and let it go bomb the enemy.
Looks like video games
I don't remember any such denials actually. Is this the same as the "russia claims they will conquer ukraine in 2 days according to washington dc insider familiar with putins thinking" stories?
Actually, we know where most of the T62's went, and why - to the kherson frontline to shore up defenses, and secondly to secondline units trying to hold territory that the regular BTG's have taken, due to russian BTG's not having enough manpower to effectively hold territory.
using shitty equipment risks soldiers lives, even if Ukraine isn't a serious enemy putting your own men at such risk ranges from negligent to intentional murder
they gave them to the militias

Z-posters have been denying it for the past two months claiming nothing older than T-80s are being used. This has proven to be false given the prevalence of backstocked T-72s (the type Ukraine uses, although modified with western electronics) and now T-62s. They also did claim to take Ukraine within a few days, back when Putin expected a full surrender.
